Fun fact: there are not a lot of words that start with the letter J in English. I wanted to use something other than "jump" or "jack" or "jolly", which were the first words that popped into my head. A jambeau is a piece of armor for your leg. It's something I wish I had because I was feasted upon by mosquitos when I briefly went into my yard today. I think I was out there for all of a minute and a half and came in with 9 new mosquito bites. Blegh. A coworker recommended a special body wash and lotion that should help with the scarring, though. My skin just doesn't heal well after these bug bites anymore, whether due to my age or my diabetes.
Since my post yesterday got swallowed up by the book I read, I want to briefly talk about what I did yesterday. I woke up at the crack of dawn to help out with the last vestiges of invetory at work, then I spent the rest of the day with my boyfriend. We had lunch at La Madeleine and then putzed around all afternoon before going to the mall in the evening. I was able to pick up a new pair of comfortable work shoes since my favorite pair wore down to the point where the soles had holes... It could no longer be avoided and my boyfriend bought me new shoes as a gift. Did a lot of window shopping, too. One of my favorite hobbies is to pick out clothes that I like at Anthropologie, then look at the price tag and feel my heart completely freeze over. I cannot fathom the lifestyle of someone who can drop $80 on a blouse on a regular basis. We eventually had a lovely dinner at Breadwinners and then spent a long while walking around in the courtyard to exercise away the shrimp and grits we'd ingested.

After that, we sat on a bench near the mall piano player and read our books. He's been trying to read classics that he never got around to and was reading the Virgin Suicides a week ago. He is now reading Brave New World. It feels very timely, given the way our country looks right now. It was nice listening to the pianist play, though it was hard to hear him over the mall noise. He played a number of songs from the Greatest Showman and the main song from Moana. I suppose I can forgive him for starting with a Coldplay song!
All in all, it was a lovely day. Today I had an opening shift at work, but it was nice because I was mostly in the back processing mailing orders and store-to-store transfers. I did have to answer the phone and do some customer service, but it wasn't so bad. It's nice being able to stay in the back and work in peace. I had a lot of time to think about various things and continue to agonize over my job application.
After work, I hung out with two of my friends for a bit. One of them has just bought a condo and Sarah hadn't been there yet, so I went over there with her and she got a tour of the place. Afterwards, Sarah and I gave our friend a little tour of the new suburb he'd moved to, and then we grabbed tea at a local boba tea shop. It was fun looking at all the different restaurants and cafes in the area.
If I get my own place, I'd love to live nearby, too. As much as I'm used to where I live, it's certainly not the hippest or most convenient place to live by a longshot. It'll be a hot minute before I'm able to finally have my own place. I've fantasized about it for years, about how lovely it would be to decorate my own place. I lost some of that spark last year when I moved out and realized how much money it costs to decorate a room. Beds, in particular, are horribly expensive. And I'm in love with the idea of a Murphy/wall bed to maximize space and discourage me from just laying down and taking a nap when I get bored or hot. But it's still fun to dream and add bookmarks to interior design books and quietly save images of places I love. That's free, at least.
With this, my month of June is over. I didn't achieve quite as many things as I wanted, but it's been an intense month of work and learning more about myself. I'll be hitting 100 blog posts towards the end of next month... I can't believe I've already posted this much. If you've been here from the first post, thank you. If you visited for the first time today, welcome. Here's to a wonderful, creative, inspiring July!
Which I finished last night and oh my gosh each story got better and better, as well as more and more gut-punching. I immediately loaned the book to a friend and I need some time to process my thoughts, but I will talk about it again! ↩︎
I never knew you could get a salad sampler!! I've always gotten the cafe sampler but been kinda iffy about the quiche and stuff. I'm going to always get the salad sampler from now on. ↩︎
I'm not a fan of Coldplay. Not at all. ↩︎
