Well, my family has more or less dispersed. There's a few cousins left at my house that are staying for a couple of days, but for me it's more or less back to business as usual. I've got to open early tomorrow morning and go back to an exercise routine. (I haven't been getting much exercise in, just lots of tasty Vietnamese food and videogames)
My cousin Rebecca and I had a nice heart-to-heart talk today over some poke bowls. We're very similar in a lot of ways so even though we're about 3 years apart, we have really nice rant sessions together. This weekend has been
a little fraught with drama. Put a lot of family members under one roof together and tempers are bound to flare. There's a lot of people with more conservative opinions and old-fashioned ways clashing with us—the up-and-coming generation that's doing a lot of things they don't understand. It's easy to forget that they were once like us, too.
We watched The Incredibles 2 today, which was a trip. I used to write fanfiction for that movie, though it was honestly more of a way for me to practice my character design and world-building. I didn't write about the main characters, but about superheroes that had been killed off-screen who were only briefly mentioned. In the DVD special features, there were a bunch of "classified" profiles about those supers and I used bits of information about their names and powers to create characters I could write about. I got excited while watching the sequel when Dynaguy and a few of the others were briefly mentioned towards the beginning. I've always said I would love an Incredibles prequel, but the sequel was a lot of fun, too.
I'm eager to get back to work writing, but I may fall behind. I hadn't counted on a few of my cousins staying past today and I'll have to entertain them some when I'm off work. It's hard to blow them off for writing/programming when I only see them a few times a year. Family is so important to me. It makes me glad I decided to go light with my goals this month. I'll have to work extra hard to make sure I get everything done on time. It was tempting to use up one or both of my break days this weekend, but I dug deep and managed to get some words out onto my screen.
I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend. Even if you didn't do everything you wanted to, the important thing is you got through it and you've got another week to try again. Before we know it, July's going to be half over... I don't want to regret what I could have done and I hope you somehow make yourselves happy, too.
